The Village at Mason Mill

  • 2012-10-11
  • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Mason Mill Park Recreation Center, 1340 McConnell Drive

If you have elderly parents, friends or neighbors, or plan on becoming a senior yourself; you may want to check this out.

The Village program is designed to help seniors ‘age in place’, i.e. enable them to live in their homes longer by providing needed services.  District 2 in DeKalb County has a larger senior demographic than elsewhere in the county making this the logical place to test pilot this concept.

The Leafmore Civic Association will be inviting the county’s spokesperson for this program to make a presentation to our residents about what services will be offered and the expected costs sometime later this year.  In the meantime, those interested in this type of assistance are invited to the meeting below.

Summary From DeKalb County-  For an annual fee that can range from $150-$500/person, you get access to the Village services including transportation to medical/grocery/shopping/pharmacy, home maintenance and household work assistance, health and finance advice and access to legal services.  Transportation and help moving furniture and handy work are the most used services in 5 Village organizations in Washington, DC.  Village concept is administered primarily by volunteers and as such is not a provider model and does not have license requirements.  Villages can work with prescreened providers to deliver services to members at pre-negotiated rates.
